US Vice President Kamala Harris condemns shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Wisconsin
Washington: According to US Vice President Kamala Harris, “senseless gun violence” has returned to the classrooms after the massacre at Wisconsin’s Abundant Life Christian School. Harris described the massacre as a “senseless shooting” and that she and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, were grieving the losses brought on by the violence.
“Over the weekend, our country took a moment to remember the courageous teachers and defenseless children who were stolen from us twelve years ago when a person carrying a weapon of mass destruction entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. “Students and teachers in Madison, WI, had their final week of school before Christmas break tragically interrupted by a deadly shooting today, bringing senseless gun violence to our classrooms once again,” Harris said in a statement.
The vice president thanked the security personnel and first responders for their prompt response at the scene.
“Doug and I are praying for everyone hurt, especially those who are still in the hospital, and we are grieving the loss of the instructor and student. We are also considering the families and young people whose lives have been irrevocably altered by this act of gun violence. Additionally, we are expressing our appreciation to the educators, law enforcement officers, first responders, and medical personnel who swiftly and heroically sprung into action to prevent other deaths in our community,” the statement said.
She emphasized that more has to be done while acknowledging the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention legislation’s efforts.
“We must make a commitment to do all within our power to put a stop to this pandemic, which has emerged as the biggest cause of death for children in America, while we spend this Christmas season with our loved ones.
There is still more work to be done to guarantee that everyone has the freedom to live free from the horror of gun violence, even though we have made the necessary progress together over the past four years, including through the most important gun safety legislation in almost 30 years and the establishment of our first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
Assault weapons must be prohibited, red flag and safe storage legislation must be passed, and background checks must be made mandatory by Congress and state legislatures. The statement went on to say, “These sensible solutions will save lives and make our communities and children safer.”
A shooting at Wisconsin’s Abundant Life Christian School left at least two people dead and six wounded.
A shooter who was 15 years old was discovered by the investigators. In addition, she was discovered dead from what seemed to be a gunshot wound.
