When asked about the rise of “Islamist extremism in Bangladesh under the Yunus-backed regime,” the targeting of American brands, and anti-Semitic sentiments during the press briefing on Tuesday (US local time), spokesperson Tammy Bruce responded, “Bangladesh is a country with certain issues; they are also a country we have talked about often.”

“I would like to bring up the arrest of Sadiq, a UK Member of Parliament, in relation to Bangladesh,” she said. Even demonstrations are a subject for Bangladeshi authorities to address, according to the arrests made by Bangladeshi courts. Speaking with them is also very important.

She said, “Future of Bangladesh is going to be decided by the Bangladeshi people… we’ve seen the reports.”

Bruce went on to say, “Elections are important. It’s true, and I don’t want to seem corny. It’s rather obvious what the options are for many countries on this planet: democracy matters, and people’s efforts to address situations that might endanger their lives matter.”

“The government of Bangladesh is committed to ensuring the safety and security of every citizen, regardless of their creed, color, religion, or ethnicity,” said Md. Jashim Uddin, the country’s foreign secretary, earlier on April 12. Any kind of violence or intimidation directed at any of its residents is not tolerated in our nation. We understand exactly what our obligations are in this respect.”

He said this while characterizing the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in Bangkok, which took place on the fringes of the BIMSTEC convention, as a significant advancement.

PM Modi emphasized India’s concerns about the safety and security of Bangladesh’s minorities, including Hindus, during his meeting with Yunus in Bangkok. He also stated his expectation that the government of Bangladesh would guarantee their safety, including by looking into cases of atrocities committed against them in detail.

The foreign secretary of Bangladesh has now reassured that his country is dedicated to protecting the safety of its minorities.

The foreign secretary of Bangladesh further expressed the desire that South Asia might develop as a whole and that the economic growth of one nation could support that of another.
