US Secretary of State Donald Lu leaves for India, Sri Lanka and Nepal today

Washington: According to a statement released by the US State Department on Tuesday, Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, who oversees the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, will visit India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal between December 3 and December 10.

In order to advance regional security and development, his visit will deepen collaboration with important South Asian partners.

Assistant Secretary Lu will promote US-India cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond while in New Delhi, India. He will head US involvement in the US-India East Asia Consultations with Daniel Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

The US State Department claims that the consultations would provide a chance to share viewpoints on regional and international problems, in addition to separate talks with top Indian officials.
Assistant Secretary Lu will visit Colombo, Sri Lanka, on December 5 to further US-Sri Lankan collaborations to support sustainable economic development, fight corruption, and improve interpersonal relations.

The Assistant Secretary will meet with top government officials from Sri Lanka’s new administration as well as leaders from civil society, accompanied by USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Department of the Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth.

In addition to supporting the new government’s efforts to fight corruption, the discussions will look at how the US can help Sri Lanka’s governance and economic reform agenda via development programs, capacity building, and specialized technical assistance.

In Kathmandu, Nepal, Assistant Secretary Lu will wrap up his tour by meeting with top leaders to promote collaboration on sustainable development, women’s empowerment, and environmental preservation. To learn more about their outlook on the US’s future, he will meet with young leaders.Relationships with Nepal.

Discussions will also focus on the value of cultural preservation, acknowledging that Nepal’s rich legacy is a fundamental component of its identity and a major source of both tourist and economic growth.
