US: Robert Saleh was assisted in his exit by team personnel after being sacked
US: Following Tuesday morning head coach Robert Saleh’s firing by New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, organization staff allegedly helped Saleh leave.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk claims Saleh “was escorted out of the building by the team’s director of security” after Johnson’s revelation of his decision. NFL insider Jordan Schultz validated Florio’s story.
But according to SNY’s Connor Hughes, “multiple sources” informed him Saleh was not removed out of the premises by team security.
The Saleh/escorted-out-by-security narrative seems rather off-target. According what I know, procedure is that the head of security strolled with him to his vehicle. It’s not as if they had to force him off the grounds or anything of the like.
Florio pointed out that Adam Gase, Saleh’s former boss, was let go after the 2020 season without the same treatment.
Cimini said Saleh was “stunned” by Johnson’s decision as he walked up to the team’s facilities on Tuesday expecting business as normal as Monday Night Football versus the Buffalo Bills was under preparation.
In a statement, Johnson stated he decided because he thought the Jets “are not where we should be given our expectations.”
With a 23-17 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings in London, the Jets dropped Saleh’s record from three-and- a-half-years to 20-36 on Sunday. Although New York’s offense has appeared fragmented during the previous two defeats to the Denver Broncos and the Vikings, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will not be sacked at this time, says The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
After Saleh was let go, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was elevated to temporary head coach.
Although Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said Ulbrich is “beloved by the entire Jets roster and staff,” it remains to be seen whether the first-time head coach can be able to address New York’s offensive problems.
With a victory against the Bills on Monday, Johnson is definitely hopeful that his choice will pay off as the Jets have a chance to ascend into first place in the AFC East.
