US President Donald Trump nominates Indian-origin Harmeet K Dhillon as Attorney General in the US Justice Department
Washington: Harmeet K. Dhillon, who is of Indian descent, was nominated by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday to serve as the US Department of Justice’s Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. In a statement, Dhillon expressed her gratitude to Trump and promised to support the US civil rights program.
In a press release, Trump said, “I am pleased to nominate Harmeet K. Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the US Department of Justice.”
“Harmeet has continuously defended our beloved civil liberties throughout her career. She has fought Big Tech for restricting our free speech, defended Christians who were denied the opportunity to pray together during COVID, and sued companies that discriminate against their employees through woke policies. One of the nation’s leading election attorneys, Harmeet works to guarantee that only legitimate ballots are tallied. She completed her law studies at the University of Virginia and Dartmouth College, and she worked as a clerk in the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Harmeet is a well-respected Sikh religious figure. Harmeet will vigorously protect our constitutional rights in her new position at the DOJ, and she will firmly and fairly enforce our election and civil rights laws.” Harmeet, congratulations!”
“I’m incredibly honored by President Trump’s nomination to assist with our nation’s civil rights agenda,” Dhillon said. Serving our wonderful nation has always been my ambition, and I am thrilled to be a member of the amazing legal team under Pam Bondi’s leadership. I’m very excited to start working! Without the help of my wonderful mother and brother, as well as my departed father Tejpal and spouse Sarv, I would not be here today. With God’s grace, I wish to respect their memory.
Earlier, on July 16, during Trump’s campaign, Dhillon led the Sikh prayer known as the Ardas at the Republican National Convention in front of former US President Donald Trump.
