The Brazilian President made this remark during the launch of the Global Coalition against Hunger and Poverty
The Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty was launched at the 2024 G20 Summit, led by Brazil, and called on global leaders to take action against hunger and poverty.
Luiz Inacia Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, established a worldwide coalition to combat hunger and poverty.
“Hunger and poverty are not caused by scarcity or natural phenomena,” said Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, during the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty’s founding. It is the result of political choices that keep a sizable portion of humankind out. Of the $110 trillion global GDP, 85% is represented by the G20. In addition, it is home to two-thirds of the world’s 8 billion people and 75% of the 32 trillion dollars in commerce in products and services. The essential job of putting a stop to this disease that disgracefully plagues mankind is up to all of us here at this table.
He drew attention to global data by saying, “The FAO estimates that 733 million people would still be undernourished in 2024. Brazil, Mexico, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Canada all seem to be experiencing famine. Every day, the rights of these women, men, and children to food, education, growth, and life are infringed. This is intolerable in a world that produces about 6 billion tons of food annually. This is unacceptable in a world where military expenditure amounts to 2.4 trillion dollars.
The Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty was established at the G20 Summit, which was led by Brazil. The African Union, the European Union, 24 international organizations, nine international financial institutions, 31 charitable and non-governmental organizations, and 82 nations were among the 148 founding members of the alliance.
The alliance’s creative objective is to expedite international efforts to end hunger and poverty, according to a statement released by the Brazilian government. Reaching 500 million individuals with cash transfer programs in low- and lower-middle-income nations by 2030 is one of the pledges and announcements.
According to the Brazilian government, the Alliance also intends to raise billions of dollars in grants and credit through multilateral development banks to carry out these and other programs, while also providing high-quality school meals to an additional 150 million children in nations where child poverty and hunger are endemic.
“Our greatest legacy will be this. It goes beyond just doing justice.
During his address, the president of Brazil said that this is crucial for creating more wealthy society and a world free of conflict.
The Global South was badly affected by the food, fuel, and fertilizer problems brought on by the continuing hostilities, thus PM Modi also praised Brazil’s proposal to build a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, emphasizing that their issues should take precedence.
“We support Brazil’s “Global Alliance against hunger and poverty” effort. He said, “This is a significant step in putting the Deccan High-level principles for food security, which were established at the New Delhi Summit, into practice.
