Taiwan reports Chinese military activity and detects 25 Chinese aircraft and 7 ships

Taiwan: The Ministry of National Defense (MND) of Taiwan reported Chinese military activities on Saturday, identifying seven warships and 25 Chinese aircraft in the Taiwan area. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MOD) said on X that “up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today, 25 PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected.”

Thirteen planes “crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s southwestern and southeastern ADIZ,” according to the MOD.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense said that it has kept an eye on the issue and has taken appropriate action.

Chinese incursions into Taiwan have risen recently. Taiwan has increased marine border security in retaliation.
Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te was present at the #ROCN Shuei-Sing Barracks completion ceremony on Friday. The Taiwanese Navy Underwater Operations Unit will relocate to this station, which will also improve its training capabilities.

According to Taiwan News, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the United States, Japan, and Australia for their joint statement earlier Tuesday that called for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

This announcement came after the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III, Japanese Minister of Defense Nakatani Gen, Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles, and the defence ministers of the three countries reaffirmed their commitment to regional security at the 14th Trilateral Defence Ministers’ Meeting (TDMM) in Darwin, Australia.

“The Presidential Office responds to a joint statement following the trilateral meeting of US, Japanese, and Australian defense ministers,” the spokesperson for the Taiwanese presidential office stated after sharing the joint statement on X.

After China conducted a massive military exercise outside the island, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te called a high-level national security conference and reassured the people that the government would eliminate any danger to Taiwan’s democracy and security.

His comments followed the announcement by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of military exercises, called “Joint Sword-2024B,” in the Taiwan Strait and its environs, which the Taipei Times said was a “stern warning” to proponents of Taiwan independence.
