Smith discussed the two nations’ increasing alignment in an interview with the media report. He emphasized the significance of having similar values and goals as well as how the connection has been reinforced by personal diplomacy between leaders like President Trump and Prime Minister Modi.

“Personal diplomacy between leaders like Prime Minister Modi and President Trump is essential for fostering stronger bilateral relations,” Smith said. “In today’s interconnected world, trust and direct engagement between heads of state play a crucial role in turning strategic vision into actionable policy.”

He clarified that the relationship between the two presidents has greatly strengthened US-India cooperation, enabling advancements in technology, commerce, and military. Despite shifting political environments, their regular meetings and open dialogue have facilitated the acceleration of important agreements and guaranteed ongoing cooperation.

Smith also emphasized that private diplomacy goes beyond talks with the government. “Beyond statecraft, personal diplomacy has a direct impact on public perception and investor confidence,” he said.

“Strong leader-to-leader engagement reassures businesses, encourages cross-border investments, and fosters people-to-people connections.” He emphasized that leaders who openly support one another’s nations foster trust in all spheres of society, which strengthens and fortifies bilateral ties.

Smith also recognized the need for personal diplomacy in negotiating geopolitical unpredictabilities. “Moreover, in times of geopolitical uncertainty, personal diplomacy serves as a critical tool for conflict resolution, ensuring that disputes do not derail progress.” He said that PM Modi’s and Trump’s involvement has set the stage for long-term cooperation, whether they are talking about trade disparities, security issues, or technological collaborations.

Smith said that he was certain that Prime Minister Modi’s next trip to the US will reinforce how strong these ties are. “Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US will reaffirm the importance of this relationship, demonstrating that personal diplomacy is not just symbolic–it is a driving force in shaping global alliances,” he said.
