Speaking at a gathering here on Monday, Lavrov said that Russia is aggressively extending its connections with most nations in the world, including China, India, Iran, North Korea, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to official media TASS.

“We place a high priority on strengthening our relations with most nations in the world. At a meeting of the board of trustees of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, Lavrov said, “The relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation with the People’s Republic of China boast an unprecedented level of mutual trust.”

According to Russian official media, he said, “We enjoy a particularly privileged strategic partnership with India.”

The main tendency, according to the Russian foreign minister, is the development of a more equitable multipolar global order. “New global centers outside the global West—China and India, as well as our other BRICS and SCO partners—are getting increasingly stronger.”

He stated that Russia maintains a vigorous political dialogue, “including at the highest level, with SCO and BRICS countries and other like-minded nations, including within the framework of the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter, which has been established in New York and regularly meets at the level of deputy foreign ministers and national coordinators.”

“Serious progress has been reached in expanding and deepening friendly ties with such states as the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov pointed out that Moscow places “special emphasis on strengthening all areas of cooperation with allies and partners among CIS member states, including within the framework of the Commonwealth, as well as the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin wished President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi a happy 76th Republic Day and praised India’s accomplishments over the last 75 years. He also emphasized Russia and India’s solid and long-standing strategic alliance.

“A unique and privileged strategic cooperation is the foundation of ties between Russia and India. I have no doubt that we will work together to continuously strengthen our positive bilateral cooperation in every field and our positive engagement in global affairs. This is unquestionably in accordance with the efforts to establish a just multipolar international order and serves the basic interests of our friendly peoples,” Putin’s statement said.

Putin and Prime Minister Modi continue to communicate frequently, speaking on the phone once every two months.

Yury Ushakov, a Kremlin adviser, said in December of last year that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited President Putin to visit India, with dates to be determined in early 2025.

As part of the accords in the 2000 Declaration on Strategic Partnership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made two trips to Russia in 2024: the first in July to attend the 16th BRICS conference in Kazan and the second in October.
