PTI supporters gather in Washington and offer funeral prayers for those killed in Islamabad
Washington: Outside Pakistan’s embassy in Washington, DC, members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of imprisoned former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, assembled and said funeral prayers for those slain in Islamabad.
“Dr. @SHABAZGIL and @johnnybashir led Pakistani-Americans in gathering outside the Pakistani embassy in Washington, DC, to offer funeral prayers in absentia for their countrymen massacred in Islamabad,” PTI’s US Chapter said in a post on X. #IslamabadMassacre We will never forgive those who committed the crime or forget the sacrifices made by the victims of democracy.
In solidarity with the imprisoned former prime minister Khan, Pakistani diaspora members have come to the streets throughout the world.
In support of Imran Khan’s #FinalCall, PTI supporters gathered in Mississauga, Canada, earlier on Monday. They joined more than 60 other cities throughout the globe in protesting “Pakistan’s authoritarian regime.”
The PTI also praised Imran Khan, describing him as a person who, in spite of being imprisoned, never stops inspiring and motivating the country.
“While confined in a 6×8 prison cell, the captain, the leader, the philanthropist, the educationist, the mentor, the idol, and the legend who has not only terrified the rogue, fascist regime into shutting down an entire country, but also massively mobilized an entire nation, not only inside the country, but all around the globe!” this is what the PTI wrote in a post on X. That’s the strength of the guy—the strength of his words, the strength of his beliefs! Imran Khan Niazi is his name, and he has triumphed.
Two PTI supporters and four security guards were killed Tuesday as PTI demonstrations calling for Imran Khan’s release descended into violence, according to Dawn. At Islamabad’s D-Chowk, where demonstrators were confronted with powerful tear gas, the rallies turned into altercations with security personnel.
