“In the great state of Michigan, which we won by a significant margin, Pete is well respected. He served as the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and represented Michigan’s 2nd District in Congress for over 20 years. As chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, he greatly aided our campaign, the statement said.

“I changed the terrible NAFTA Agreement, the worst trade agreement in American history, to the USMCA (Mexico/Canada), something no one believed was possible. For our amazing farmers and working families, we leveled the playing field in trade with Canada and Mexico,” Trump said.

He said that Hoekstra would assist him in putting “America First” once again during his second term.

He praised Hoekstra, saying the former ambassador performed a fantastic job as the U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands over the first four years of the Trump Administration, and he had a lot of faith in Hoekstra.

“In this new position, he will continue to represent our nation with excellence. I’m grateful, Pete,” Trump responded.

Pete Hoekstra posted on X to thank everyone and to say that he was “honoured for the opportunity.”

“Grateful for the chance to serve. “Mr. President, thank you,” Hoekstra remarked.

In the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump defeated Democratic opponent Kamala Harris with 295 electoral votes, earning him a second term as president of the United States.

President-elect Donald Trump has acted quickly after winning to assemble his national security and foreign policy staff in preparation for his official inauguration in January 2025.
