Washington: Elon Musk, a businessman and adviser, has received support from US President-elect Donald Trump because of his recent remarks on the contributions made by immigrants to the US.

Musk had urged Americans to maintain the nation’s character as a place of freedom and opportunity, highlighting the importance of hardworking people from all colors, creeds, and nationalities who had contributed to the country.

“Anyone who came to America and worked like hell to contribute to this country will forever have my respect,” Musk said in a post, regardless of color, faith, or nationality. America is a place of opportunity and freedom. Do all in your power to maintain it that way.

The president-elect retweeted Tesla CEO’s statement on his social media network, Truth Social, to express his support for Musk.

Two days before, the New York Post reported that Trump had called the H-1B visa program a “great program,” expressing his support for it and acknowledging that he routinely used it for his own properties.

The president-elect described it as a “great program” and claimed to have “always” supported it.

“The visas have always been something I’ve loved and supported. Trump told the New York Post over the phone, “That’s why we have them.”

“I have a lot of H-1B visas on my properties,” he said. I have been a supporter of H-1B. I’ve made extensive use of it. It’s an excellent program.

Notably, the government restricted H-1B visas during Trump’s first term, claiming “economic strain” and “abuse” were the reasons.

Trump’s comments about H-1B visas followed the emergence of a significant rift within his MAGA team in the US as Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk, who supported the expansion of the visa program for “highly skilled workers,” were heavily criticized by the president-elect’s supporters.

As Trump gets ready to take office, the controversy over H-1B visas was rekindled by Musk and Ramaswamy, two foreign-origin executives who are in charge of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
