It gives me great pleasure to introduce Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard, a former congresswoman, as the next Director of National Intelligence (DNI). Tulsi has been fighting for our nation and the liberties of all Americans for more than 20 years. She has widespread support in both parties, having previously run for the Democratic presidential nomination. She is now a Republican with pride! As she defends our constitutional rights and uses strength to achieve peace, I have no doubt that Tulsi will bring to our Intelligence Community the courageous attitude that has characterized her remarkable career. We will all be proud of Tulsi.
Tulsi Gabbard is who?
Before leaving the Democratic Party in 2022, Tulsi Gabbard represented Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district as a Democrat from 2013 to 2021. She criticized the party as a “elitist cabal of warmongers” and said that her resignation was mostly due to disputes over war and military involvement.
She challenged Kamala Harris and other contenders for the Democratic presidential candidacy in 2019.
Because of her first name, Tulsi Gabbard is often misidentified as being of Indian descent. Despite having a Hindu first name, Gabbard has no traceable Indian ancestry. All of her children were given Hindu names once their mother converted to Hinduism. Gabbard considers himself a Hindu as well.
