People of many areas in Karachi, Pakistan are angry due to the stoppage of gas supply
Karachi: According to ARY News, the gas supply was cut off in some neighborhoods of Karachi, Pakistan, leaving the locals furious. Sir Syed Town, Manzoor Colony, North Karachi, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal are among the impacted localities.
Communities in Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, and Khawaja Ajmer Nagri stated that the gas supply had completely stopped. Residents in Malir and a few blocks of Gulistan-e-Johar experienced an unexpected interruption, which made their problems worse.
Residents claimed that the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had shut off the gas supply one hour ahead of schedule, according to ARY News. According to the SSGC, the supply would continue until ten o’clock at night.
The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) released a revised winter gas supply strategy earlier on December 12.
According to the updated gas supply schedule, customers may get gas at three specific times: 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Notably, the persistent gas scarcity in Hyderabad, Pakistan, has become worse as winter has begun to set in, which has angered locals—especially women—more and more.
Due to frequent gas outages and low pressure that interfere with everyday activities on both weekdays and weekends, the situation has gotten out of hand. Political leaders have only made hollow pledges in response to popular outcry, and there are currently no tangible answers in sight.
Residents of Hyderabad have been dealing with low gas pressure and unplanned shutdowns for a few months, but as the temperature has become colder, the problem has gotten worse. According to Express Tribune, the gas supply is switched off in populated regions like Latifabad and Qasimabad between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The pressure is so low when gas is available that it is hardly usable. In addition, gas outages now happen even on holidays, unlike in the past.
The study claims that many inhabitants are now depending on alternatives, such as LPG cylinders, for cooking due to the gas supply’s unpredictability.
