Peel police respond to a trespassing complaint during a protest at the Brampton Hindu Sabba Mandir in Canada
Canada: On November 3, at about 12:00 pm, Peel Regional Police responded to a trespassing allegation during a demonstration at the Hindu Sabba Temple on The Gore Road in Brampton. Concerns about public safety were aroused by the rapidly intensifying demonstration, which led to cops seizing objects that may be used as weapons.
An incident between a cop and a demonstrator was filmed on social media, despite the police’s efforts to defuse the situation, according to an official news statement. Peel Regional Police reviewed the event after the video caused community members to become alarmed.
The news statement was made public online by Peel Regional Police Tyler Bell Morena, Crime Suppression Team, in a post on X (previously Twitter).
“Peel Regional Police acknowledges that the community was alarmed by the video. We have reviewed the event and take any allegations about police behavior seriously,” the statement said.
After an inquiry, it was found that the officer was trying to disarm a person who had been combative and refused to give up their firearm. The police said, “Therefore, [the officer] acted within the lawful execution of his duties.” The officer’s body-worn camera video has been made public to increase openness.
Peel Regional Police established a Strategic Investigative Team to look into criminal activity during the demonstrations in reaction to the events of November 3 and 4. The team is actively looking for the public’s help in identifying suspects or in providing general information about what happened.
“Contacting police detectives is recommended for anybody with general or suspicious information. “You can also call Peel Crime Stoppers to provide anonymous information,” the news statement said.
Peel Regional Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms’ guarantees of peaceful assembly. They did, however, restate their zero-tolerance stance for threats, violence, or damage at these events.
“The freedom of individuals to peacefully gather is one that Peel Regional Police is dedicated to upholding. “Violent acts, threats of violence, or vandalism during any peaceful assembly, however, are not tolerated,” the statement said.
In closing, the statement expressed gratitude for the cooperation of those who kept the peace during the proceedings.
The police emphasize the need to maintain public safety during demonstrations and encourage the public to contribute any pertinent information while investigations are ongoing.
