Pakistan’s counter-terrorism ATC sends PTI founder Imran Khan on a 14-day judicial remand
Pakistan: In a case involving a New Town police station, Pakistan’s anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday placed Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the country’s former prime minister, on a 14-day judicial detention, according to ARY News.
According to ARY News, Imran Khan was detained in the New Town PS case after being released on bail in the Toshakhana case, and he is presently in Adiala Jail.
According to ARY News, ATC judge Amjad Ali Shah heard the petition and granted him judicial remand at the New Town police station along with seven other cases.
The move followed the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s detention in seven further vandalism-related charges.
Following a crucial meeting on Sunday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political committee released a statement calling for complete access to party founder Imran Khan because of grave worries about his health and safety, according to ARY News.
The committee said that there was increasing public fear over Imran Khan’s health, which had become a serious issue. In order to guarantee openness and responsibility in Khan’s care, it demanded that access to his family, legal counsel, and party officials be immediately restored.
The statement also called on the Punjabi and federal governments, as well as the jail administration, to provide regular and transparent information on Khan’s condition.
The committee also urged the court to uphold Imran Khan’s basic rights and guarantee that strong security measures are in place, according to ARY News. It sent a strong warning, holding the Punjab Chief Minister, the Prime Minister, and other state agencies responsible for any failure to ensure Khan’s safety.
Adiala Jail officials had already informed the public that Imran Khan was doing well. This statement came after rumors circulated that Khan would be relocated.
According to reports cited by ARY News, Khan is now being detained in a cell under the control of the New Town Police Station. He is still being held on physical remand until December 2 in relation to a case involving the demonstration on September 28.
