With everyone’s eyes on potential deals to be inked in the Chinese capital, Nepali Premier Oli headed a group of over 87 persons to Beijing.

Prior to leaving for China, Oli, who is also the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), discussed the new “BRI framework for cooperation” document with Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Nepali Congress, and other top party leaders.

A four-person joint team that was established by both sides created the plan.

The task force changed the name of the “BRI implementation plan” to “Framework for cooperation.” The foreign ministry sent the document to the Chinese Embassy on Saturday for Beijing’s review after the two top leaders’ agreement last week.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has invited the prime minister of Nepal to visit, which is set for December 2–5. Oli is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and have bilateral discussions with Premier Li Keqiang during his four-day visit to China.

During his visit, he will also speak with Chinese Communist Party top officials.

Prime Minister Oli will also give a keynote speech at Peking University.

The tour’s specifics were confirmed by Mao Ning, the spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, who said, “Nepal’s Prime Minister Oli will pay an official visit to China from December 2 to 5 at the invitation of Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council.”

“The entourage of the Prime Minister will comprise Arzu Rana Deuba, Minister for Foreign Affairs; Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister; Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Economic and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister; members of the Parliament; high-ranking government officials; representatives of the private sector; and media persons,” said the press release. Since Oli took office in July of this year, this will be the first trip to a foreign country.
