NDP leader Jagmeet Singh reacts to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement that he is resigning as leader
When Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party, Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), responded on Monday.
He said that Trudeau had let people down and received criticism for how he handled matters like housing, food, and medical care.
Liberals don’t deserve another chance, according to Jagmeet Singh. Additionally, he made fun of the Conservative Party by accusing it of giving CEOs priority. He appealed to Canadians to support the NDP.
Jagmeet Singh said in a statement posted on X, “Justin Trudeau has repeatedly failed you down. Regarding the price of goods and housing, he disappointed you. He failed to fix health care for you. Whoever is in charge of the Liberals is irrelevant. They are not worthy of another opportunity.
“Conservatives are snatching on the chance to steal from you and give CEOs more. Poilievre’s cutbacks will cost you dearly. This time, support the NDP if you’re against the heartless Conservative cutbacks and the wealthy becoming wealthier while everyone else becomes worse off. For once, you can have a government that works for you,” he said.
On Monday (local time), Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he will step down as both Prime Minister and head of the Liberal Party as soon as a replacement was selected. Trudeau claimed to have discussed the need to begin searching for a new prime ministerial candidate with the president of the Liberal Party.
At a news conference on Monday (local time), Jagmeet Singh criticized Trudeau for proroguing the Canadian Parliament and called his move “wrong,” according to Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC), a Canadian media outlet. According to him, the Liberals must be removed, and the New Democrats are providing Canadians who are concerned about Pierre Poilievre’s cutbacks with an alternative.
He said, “Well, typical liberals, they are shutting down Parliament not going to work and and Canadians actually need them to be on work, need us to go to work so it’s completely wrong what they’re doing,” in response to the question of why the Canadian Parliament was prorogued until March 24. The Liberals’ decision to shut down Parliament is obviously incorrect and will not succeed. What should happen is that if someone failed to show up for work, they would be dismissed.
“The Liberals should be sacked because they have failed Canadians, and the New Democrats will provide Canadians who are concerned about Pierre Poilievre’s cutbacks with a viable alternative. We have shown to you that we are capable of standing up for you and achieving our goals. We battled the Liberals all the way to get dental care for the elderly.
It was a struggle, but we didn’t give up or give in, and we kept fighting until we got it for you. If you give us the chance, that’s precisely what we’ll do in government. We’ll fight for you every day, for the working class, for the middle class, to lower grocery prices, to take on those avaricious CEOs who are defrauding you, and to ensure that you can truly afford a home,” he continued.
New Democrats will vote against the Liberal administration, he said. He labeled the move “callous,” according to Canada-based media outlet Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC), and said that the Conservatives under Pierre Pollievere seek to reduce everything that Canadians need, such as healthcare, dental care, and pensions.
“Yes, whatever the vote, there will be a vote of confidence, and new Democrats will be voting against this government for an election where Canadians will have a choice,” Singh said when asked whether the NDP will vote to overthrow the government during the throne address. You’ve been let down by the Liberals. No matter who is in charge, they have consistently failed you. The Liberals are unworthy of another opportunity, and Pierre Pollievere’s Conservatives want to take away the things you depend on.”
“They want to reduce pensions for elderly people who are already having financial difficulties. At a time when individuals are unable to get the treatment they need, they want to reduce healthcare spending. They seek to reduce dental treatment for children and seniors who are now getting it. The decision is heartless, and the New Democrats intend to take on the avaricious CEOs who are defrauding you.
Our goals are to help you discover a house that you can afford and to reduce your food expenses. If you are concerned about those cutbacks or Pierre Pollievere, and you feel disappointed by the Liberals, join us as we develop a movement with the New Democrats. Join us this time; we’re putting together a movement to fight back, and we’re going all the way to the finish for you,” he said.
Regarding the expense of living, he said that Justin Trudeau had failed you. Liberals, he said, care more about themselves than the plight of Canadians. He also discussed Canada’s tariffs and the dangers posed by US President-elect Donald Trump.
“When it comes to the cost of homes, Justin Trudeau’s liberals have let Canadians down,” Jagmeet Singh said. He has let you down when it comes to the expense of living, and to be honest, it’s not Justin Trudeau who does this; rather, it’s all liberal ministers and members of parliament who look down on you when others say that we are struggling to make ends meet because of the cost of living. Therefore, they have failed you regardless of the next liberal leader. They don’t deserve another opportunity since they care more about themselves than the hardships faced by Canadians.
“Instead of concentrating on you and defending your jobs, they’re concerned about Donald Trump’s severe threats and tariffs that threaten hundreds of thousands of Canadian jobs.”
themselves. Pierre Poilievre is another significant danger to Canada’s middle class.
as well as the conservatives. In order to support the wealthy CEO buddies, Pierre Poilievre and Canadians want to take money away from the middle class. Their goal is to reduce your pension. Their goal is to reduce health care. In order to enrich their wealthy CEO friends, they want to reduce dental care,” he said.
A year before the next general elections, Trudeau’s minority government was in jeopardy when his main ally, Jagmeet Singh’s New Democratic Party, withdrew its support from the Liberal Party in September of last year, according to CBC News.
The agreement was set to expire in June 2025. Assisting Trudeau in maintaining his minority government, Jagmeet Singh criticized the Canadian prime minister for giving in to “corporate greed” and that the Liberals had “let people down.”
