Israel will cancel fireworks on Independence Day in honor of war victims, Israel’s Transport Minister said

Tel Aviv: In light of the current conflict and out of compassion for soldiers and the public who suffer from PTSD, Israel’s Transportation Minister Miri Regev, who oversees Independence Day celebrations, said on Sunday that this year’s celebrations would not include fireworks, even silent displays.

Regev called on municipal officials to do the same and call off all fireworks displays.

While applauding the move, the Wounded Combat Veterans Forum emphasized that token gestures are insufficient.

The conference said, “Israel must provide real support for those wounded in battle, beyond ceremonial statements,” and demanded that legislation to enhance veteran care be passed right once.
