According to ARY News on Tuesday, the decision, which has been sent to the federal government for final approval, calls for an average increase of 25.78 percent for users in Sindh and Balochistan and an 8.71 percent increase for consumers in Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The average gas price under the new tariff structure is PKR 1,762.51 per MMBTU for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and PKR 1,778.35 per MMBTU for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). Together with adjustments for past receivables, these modifications seek to address financial demands of PKR 319.78 billion for SSGC and PKR 527.55 billion for SNGPL.

Last month, OGRA held public hearings in response to the businesses’ first requests for gas price rises of up to 208.67 percent. Because OGRA decided to forward the suggestions to the federal government for final approval, a communication will be sent out as soon as the government agrees.

With SNGPL approved to collect nearly PKR 50 billion from prior adjustments and SSGC permitted to recover PKR 48.85 billion, this modification in gas pricing coincides with growing financial strain on the gas firms.

Balochistani people have been dealing with frigid weather on a regular basis, which has presented a number of issues. Numerous demonstrations have been held around the province as a result of the situation being made worse by persistent gas shortages and frequent power outages.

Residents in major cities have gone to the streets to vent their frustration about the gas scarcity, especially near key routes. According to The Balochistan Post, the shortage of supplies has prevented residents from using necessary equipment for cooking, heating, and other tasks during the very cold winter months.

The reliance on gas cylinders has led to a number of fatalities, with explosions from these improvised solutions injuring or killing many individuals.
