FBI : Iran allegedly stole Trump’s election materials and the FBI is investigating those allegations
FBI : The FBI is looking into claims that Donald Trump’s campaign data got stolen in a cyber-attack and also attempts to access Kamala Harris’ campaign files. This happened days after Trump’s team announced a hack by Iran. The FBI shared an update saying, “We can confirm the FBI is looking into this”. No solid proof was provided by Trump’s team regarding Iran’s role, but the accusation came after Microsoft reported foreign agents trying to meddle in the 2024 US elections.
They mentioned an Iranian military intelligence team sending a deceptive email in June to a top rank official from a hacked email account. People close to the situation said that the Biden-Harris team was also a victim of the suspected Iranian cyber-attack which is under FBI probe. But, the people wanted to remain silent because they didn’t have the authorization to talk about the investigation. Politico received emails from a nameless account starting July 22.
The source, “Robert” from an AOL email account, forwarded what looked like a research file possibly done about Republican VP nominee JD Vance dated February 23, some months before Trump picked Vance as his teammate. Trump’s team spokesperson, Steven Cheung said, “These documents were gotten illegally” with a plan to “disrupt the 2024 election”.

At least three Biden-Harris teammates received phishing emails, but no proof was found that the attempt was fruitful. The attempts happened before Joe Biden withdrew from the race. The FBI started investigating this in June, with the idea that Iran did it. Officials also contacted tech companies recently about the idea of people affiliated with Trump’s and Biden-Harris’s teams being targeted. Harris’ team claimed, “We safeguard from cyber threats, and know of no security breaches.” Iran refuted the claim of Trump’s team regarding their role.
But, Iran has been suspected of carrying out cyber hacking campaigns against its adversaries. It has also threatened Trump for ordering the 2020 drone strike that killed Guard Gen Qassem Soleimani. Microsoft reported that “outside harmful influence on the 2024 US election started slowly but has sped up over the last six months, starting with Russian operations, but lately with Iranian activity”.
The report stated: “Iranian cyber-attacks have been a consistent part of the last three U.S. elections. Iran’s actions differ from Russia’s, starting later in the election season and focusing more on election conduct than influencing voters.” “Current events suggest the Iranian regime and the Kremlin might be active in the 2024 election,” Microsoft ended.
