Donald Trump welcomes resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray
Washington: On Thursday, US President-elect Donald Trump praised FBI Director Christopher Wray’s resignation and said that the rule of law will immediately be reinstated. The resigning will stop the ‘US Department of Injustice’ from becoming weaponized, Trump stated in his statement.
Trump said in a post on X that Christopher Wray’s departure is a glorious day for America because it will put an end to the weaponization of the US Department of Injustice. I just have no idea what became of him. For all Americans, we will immediately reinstate the rule of law. “Under Christopher Wray’s leadership, the FBI unlawfully raided my home without a warrant, worked hard to illegally impeach and indict me, and has done everything in its power to sabotage America’s progress and future,” he added.
Trump added that he was eager for Kashyap “Kash” Patel, who is of Indian descent, to be confirmed as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“Many innocent Americans have been threatened and destroyed by them using their immense influence, and some of them will never be able to get beyond what has been done to them. As the most qualified candidate to head the FBI in its history, Kash Patel is dedicated to ensuring that justice, law, and order will soon return to our nation. As everyone is aware, I hold the FBI’s rank-and-file in high regard, and they reciprocate. They share my desire for these improvements, but more significantly, the American people are calling for a robust but just system of justice. Now, our FBI will return, which is what we want. In order to start the process of making the FBI great again, I eagerly await Kash Patel’s confirmation. I’m grateful!” he said.
Despite having three years left on his 10-year tenure, Wray said earlier in the day on Wednesday that he will step down before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, according to CNN.
“After weeks of deliberation, I’ve determined that serving until the end of the present Administration in January and then stepping away is what’s best for the Bureau. “I want to maintain the focus on our mission, which is the vital work you do every day for the American people,” Wray said.
The move follows Trump’s December 1 declaration that he intended to replace Wray with Kash Patel.
Notably, the FBI’s post-election investigations against the former president, particularly the Mar-a-Lago document search, have drawn criticism from Republicans throughout Wray’s term.
