Starring Nicola Coughlan as Joy and Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, the first trailer for the episode was released recently and provides a sneak peek at the exciting journey that awaits.

The trailer was posted on Disney Plus’s official social media accounts.

In the 2024-set special video, Joy finds a hidden gateway that takes her to the enigmatic Time Hotel after checking into a hotel in London.

When she walks in, she sees the Doctor himself, dinosaurs, and danger. However, as Christmas draws near, a terrible conspiracy breaks out all around the world, endangering everyone’s Christmas.

The episode’s tagline establishes the scene: “In 2024, Joy checks into a hotel in London and opens a hidden doorway to the Time Hotel, where she finds the Doctor, dinosaurs, and danger.” But just in time for Christmas, a lethal scheme is being carried out all across the world, according to Deadline.

The ensemble cast of ‘Joy to the World’ includes Gatwa and Coughlan, as well as Steph de Whalley as Anita, Jonathan Aris as Melnak, Joel Fry as Trev, Peter Benedict as Basil, Julia Watson as Hilda, and Niamh Marie Smith as Sylvia.

With ‘Doctor Who’ veteran Steven Moffat serving as executive producer and writer and Alex Sanjiv Pillai (known for his work on ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Riverdale’) directing the episode, fans can also anticipate seeing familiar faces behind the scenes.

Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter will join Russell T. Davies, who will return as showrunner and executive producer.

This Christmas episode is expected to kick off the second season of Doctor Who under the new Disney-BBC partnership, building on the popularity of earlier specials, such as the 60th anniversary specials.

Fans of the long-running program will be excited to witness the relationship between Coughlan’s Joy, whose character has been the subject of much conjecture for some time, and Gatwa’s Doctor, according to Deadline.
‘Joy to the World’ should be an exciting and dangerous holiday adventure, with danger lurking, dinosaurs on the loose, and a terrible plan endangering Christmas.

Disney+ will begin streaming “The Doctor Who Christmas special Joy to the World” on December 25, 2024.
