Conservative MP Bob Blackman condemns attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
London: The atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh were denounced by Bob Blackman, a Conservative MP for Harrow East in the United Kingdom. Speaking to the parliament on Thursday, Blackman expressed his alarm about a Bangladeshi high court’s move to exclude ISKCON from the nation.
“Today, I condemned the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and the imprisonment of Chinmoy Krishna Das,” he said in a post on X, including a video of himself speaking in the parliament. The move by their High Court to declare that ISKCON ought to be prohibited from the nation also worries me. Religious freedom must be protected everywhere.
He said that since their homes are being set on fire and their spiritual leader is being detained, Hindus in Bangladesh are now at risk of dying. He went on to say that because the UK had made it possible for Bangladesh to become independent, they had an obligation to investigate the situation.
The spiritual head of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness, which operates the biggest Hindu temple in Bangladesh, Bhaktaventa Manor in Elstree, is now being held under custody, Mr. Speaker. Hindus all around Bangladesh are physically dying as a result of the burning of their homes and temples. Additionally, the Bangladesh High Court attempted today to determine that ISKCON ought to be prohibited from the nation. Hindus are directly attacked by this. India is now threatening to take action on this. Because we made it possible for Bangladesh to be free and independent, we have a duty,” he said.
In order to raise awareness of Bangladesh throughout the globe, Blackman asked the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office to make an oral statement on the House floor.
“Now, regardless of Bangladesh’s recent political shift, the persecution of religious minorities in this manner is intolerable. We’ve only had a written statement from the FCDO so far; therefore, we would want to draw attention to the situation in Bangladesh by having the leader allow an oral statement to be made on the floor of this house,” he added.
In line with Blackman’s opinions, Lucy Powell, the Labour and Co-op MP for Manchester Central, said that she would request that the Foreign Office investigate the situation in Bangladesh.
“He is entirely correct to draw attention to these problems. We are in favor of religious and belief freedom worldwide, including in Bangladesh. “I will definitely request that the Foreign Office investigate the possibility of issuing a statement regarding the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh,” she said.
