China said it has reached a “solution” to issues related to its disputed border with India
On matters concerning the China-India border, China and India have recently kept in close contact via diplomatic and military channels. As of right now, the two parties have resolved the pertinent concerns,” Lin Jian, the spokesperson for the foreign ministry, said at a routine briefing.
The two most populous countries in the world, China and India, are fierce competitors and have often accused one another of attempting to annex land along their unofficial border, a slender strip of land known as the Line of Actual Control.
Both sides agreed not to deploy patrols into the Line of Actual Control and withdrew tens of thousands of troops after a border battle in 2020 that claimed the lives of at least 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese.
Beijing “gives its positive approval” to the agreement, Lin said on Tuesday.
“In the next stage, we will work with India to properly implement that resolution,” he said.
Lin did not specify if the agreement cleared the path for Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian President Narendra Modi to meet in person this week at the BRICS conference in Russia.
