Champions League: Barcelona beat Bayern Munich 4-1
Champions League: Raphinha’s hat-trick and a goal from Robert Lewandowski helped Barcelona defeat Bayern Munich 4-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday. Barcelona dominated the match between five-time champions Barca and six-time champions Bayern. After Barca’s goal in the opening minute, Harry Kane equalized, but he was unable to save Bayern from losing for the second time in three Champions League games.
“In my opinion, this game could have been a (Champions League) final, to be able to win it in this way, so well, in front of our fans, is quite special and I leave here happy,” said Raphinha, who scored three goals. With two victories, Barcelona is now in the top half of the standings, while Bayern is still in the bottom half.
Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City defeated Sparta Prague 5-0. “It’s unbelievable,” said City manager Pep Guardiola in reference to Haaland’s spectacular backheel goal. He is a statue. So tall and so supple.
Darwin Nunez scored the game-winning goal after Mohamed Salah provided an assist as Liverpool defeated RB Leipzig by a slim margin of 1-0. “We controlled the game in large parts apart from the last few minutes,” said Arne Slot, manager of Liverpool. Caoimhin Kelleher, the goalie for Liverpool, maintained the advantage in the second half by making vital stops.
Other outcomes were Feyenoord’s 3-1 away victory over Benfica, Atalanta’s goalless draw with Celtic, Dinamo Zagreb’s 2-0 triumph over 10-man RB Salzburg, Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-1 tie with Brest, Inter Milan’s late 1-0 victory over Young Boys, and Lille’s 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid.
