British MP Priti Patel expressed deep concern over the recent violence in Bangladesh in her parliamentary address
In a legislative speech, UK Member of Parliament Priti Patel condolenced the victims of the recent violence in Bangladesh and urged the Keir Starmer administration to take “robust action” to prevent violence and save lives.
“My thoughts are with those impacted by the terrible violence we have seen in Bangladesh, and I am really worried about it. In her speech on Monday (local time), Patel said, “I called on the Government to outline how they are engaging with the Bangladeshi Government on this urgent and important issue in Parliament this afternoon.”

“Robust action needs to be taken to protect life and prevent violence and persecution, including based on religious belief,” she said.
The United Kingdom Member of Parliament emphasized the situation in Bangladesh and said that the level of violent escalation is “deeply concerning.” And in many places, what we are now seeing is simply unchecked violence. And now, as further violence breaks out in Bangladesh, we watch in terror and astonishment. And the diaspora community here and those impacted in Bangladesh are undoubtedly on our minds in this House.
“These reports are extremely upsetting,” Priti Patel said.
She has also called on the government to act swiftly to obtain the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu priest who was arrested.
“A religious leader of ours was just taken into custody. In particular, we need to know how well due process is being followed to achieve his release. However, can’t the minister also provide information on the government’s involvement with the government on this issue? What conversations have occurred, and have we been tenacious in our pursuit of them?” she asked.
Notably, violent assaults against Hindus and other minority groups have increased in Bangladesh, leading to requests for more security and assistance.
Following the arrest of former priest Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition charges and for reportedly raising a saffron flag above Bangladesh’s national flag in Chittagong on October 25, the country has seen a rise in violence against minority populations.
