Boca Juniors appoint Fernando Gago as their new head coach
Argentina: The Boca Juniors team announced on Monday that Fernando Gago, a former Argentina international, has been named head coach. Gago will rejoin the team where he made his professional debut in 2004.
Diego Martinez, who quit last month after three straight losses in Argentina’s top division, is replaced by the 38-year-old.
“Gago, the new coach of Xeneize, inked a deal with Boca. Fernando, welcome home,” Boca posted on X.
Before rejoining Boca to play for the team again in 2013, the former defensive midfielder had stints with Real Madrid, Roma, and Valencia. His playing career came to an end with Velez Sarsfield.
After a stint with Aldosivi de Mar del Plata, he managed Racing Club to the International Super Cup and the Argentine Champions Trophy.
Gago, who assumed leadership of Chivas in December, announced his departure from the Mexican club on Thursday.
