Balochistan Assembly passes three resolutions addressing persistent issues in the province
Quetta: According to a Dawn report, the Balochistan Assembly on Thursday passed three resolutions addressing long-standing problems in the province, including splitting the Washuk constituency in two, reintroducing 4G internet service in Panjgur, and restoring passenger train services to Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Maulana Hidayatur Rehman of Jamaat-i-Islami presented a resolution denouncing Pakistan Railways for denying Balochistan access to reasonably priced and secure transportation. The federal government was encouraged by the resolution to reinstate daily rail services, including the Balochistan Express, Abbasine Express, Chiltan Express, and Akbar Bugti Express.
Mir Rahmat Saleh Baloch, a member of the National Party, introduced a motion demanding that Panjgur’s 3-year-old 4G internet services be reinstated. The resolution emphasized how communication, commerce, and education have all suffered as a result of the absence of the internet.
In a different resolution, Mir Zabid Ali Reki of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) suggested splitting the Washuk district into two seats for the next provincial assembly elections. According to Dawn, the resolution emphasized that equal representation is necessary for efficient government in Washuk due to its vast geographic expanse and scattered population.
In the meanwhile, the cabinet of Balochistan authorized important projects, such as programs to enhance education in distant regions, support for the development of water resources via a World Bank loan, and policy guidelines for carbon market trading.
It gave its approval to the Balochistan Foundational Learning Policy, which seeks to improve standards, increase literacy rates, and undertake reforms in the field of education. Additionally, a five-year, USD 100 million initiative was authorized in partnership with the World Bank to solve accessibility challenges in distant locations, enroll out-of-school children, and enhance the quality of education.
The Regularity Act 2024, which permits the temporary hiring of teachers, was also approved by the government. According to Dawn, this measure ensures stability in the education system by prohibiting instructors employed at the union council and municipal levels from being relocated to other areas.
