Baloch activist condemns closure of BMC college and hostel and says this
The shutdown of the Bolan Medical College and dormitory has been denounced by Baloch activist Mahrang Baloch, who described it as a “attack on education and an attempt to militarize academic spaces in Balochistan.”
Mahrang Baloch urged everyone to support the students’ right to an education by participating in the demonstration from Bolan Medical College to Balochistan Assembly. She said that governmental persecution, profiling, and forced kidnappings are already commonplace for Baloch students.
“The forced closure of BMC College and Hostel is an attack on education and an attempt to militarize academic spaces in Balochistan,” Mahrang Baloch said in a post on X. Baloch students already have to deal with official persecution, profiling, and enforced kidnappings. Participate in the demonstration today to protect their right to education.
A large number of students, both male and female, participated in a demonstration that was held earlier on December 11 from the protest camp. The Balochistan Post said that Bolan Medical College students and representatives from student groups spoke during the gathering.
The demonstrators criticized the college administration and the government of Balochistan for not responding to their requests. They bemoaned the state’s lack of concern, pointing out that other educational establishments in Balochistan are also being methodically closed while their sit-in is still going on.
According to The Balochistan Post, the demonstrators brought up the recent closure of the university’s dorms, the increase in enforced disappearances, and the crackdowns on Baloch students.
“This protest camp is a call to action for the people of Balochistan — students, activists, and the wider public,” one protester said, according to The Balochistan Post. The demonstrator said, “The militarization of educational institutions, closure of colleges and hostels, and the increasing suppression of Baloch students are part of a deliberate state policy.”
