Bailable arrest warrant issued against Bushra Bibi in £190 million corruption case involving Al-Qadir University Trust

Pakistan: Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been the subject of non-bailable arrest warrants issued by a Rawalpindi accountability court in relation to the GBP 190 million corruption case involving the Al-Qadir University Trust, according to ARY News.

Following a continuing investigation into the suspected financial irregularities involving the former prime minister and his family, the court, presided over by Judge Nasir Javed Rana, issued the arrest warrants.

Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, was also brought before the court in relation to the case. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had already granted bail to Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in connection with the National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement case about the GBP 190 million, even in spite of the fresh arrest orders.

After hearing the case, the two-member IHC bench—which is led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri—reserved its decision. According to ARY News, the court quickly ordered the authorities to free Imran Khan in exchange for PKR 1 million surety bail.

In a different development, Bushra Bibi sent out a video message encouraging PTI members to join the party’s scheduled demonstration on November 24. She urged party workers to unite against the administration, calling the demonstration a “final or do-or-die” demand.

Following their journey to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, she said, her family began to receive negative propaganda, which included charges that her husband, Imran Khan, was a “Jewish agent,” requests for her character assassination, and more.

On the grounds that the national treasury lost GBP 190 million, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) opened an inquiry into the purported acquisition of hundreds of acres of land under the Al-Qadir University Trust.

Imran Khan and other defendants in the case are accused of misappropriating PKR 50 billion, or GBP 190 million at the time, that was sent to the Pakistani government by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), according to ARY News.

The Al-Qadir University project was registered on December 26, 2019, and in response, NAB filed a corruption reference against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and six other people.
