Awami Party Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai urges UN to take cognizance of “brutal” treatment against PTI workers
Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the chairman of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, has called on the UN and human rights organizations to pay attention to the “brutal” treatment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists by the government during their demonstration in Islamabad, according to Dawn.
Speaking during a news conference, Achakzai said that state aggression had resulted in the deaths of several PTI employees and supporters as well as the injuries of hundreds more.
According to the Dawn article, he accused the government of hiding information about the deaths caused by the actions of security personnel and police against demonstrators who had come to Islamabad in defiance of obstacles at the request of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Achakzai, who is also the leader of the opposition coalition Tehreek Tahafuz-i-Aaian Pakistan, denied the government’s allegations that PTI members were violent. He demanded responsibility from those in charge of the abuse of power and asked for an impartial investigation into it.
The leader of PkMAP called for the filing of formal complaints against the government and the nomination of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Interior Minister, and the IGP, who were allegedly responsible for the savage violence against the innocent protestors.
Cases against Imran Khan, he said, were “politically motivated.” “The cases against Imran Khan are politically motivated, and therefore, he and all other political prisoners should be released immediately,” Dawn quoted the PTI founder, who called for his release.
Achakzai also discussed the function and representational status of the Balochistan Assembly, which approved a resolution criticizing Imran Khan’s party, during the news conference. He emphasized that limitations on political parties have not and will not put a stop to politics.
Speaking on the February 8 elections, he said that one seat was purportedly sold for 700 million Pakistani Rupees (PKR) and that the truth about the polls is widely known.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai criticized the organizations who targeted political activists with all of their might. They were unable to take significant action against armed gangs and criminals who had murdered innocent people in the districts of Rahrah Sham, Duki, Musakhail, and Khurram, however.
Additionally, he criticized the 26th Amendment and emphasized how Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) helped enact it. He said that everyone was now distorting the constitutional framework that they had all agreed upon.
Imran Khan’s party earlier Wednesday called the use of Pakistani authorities against PTI demonstrators a “massacre.” The government’s security personnel allegedly attacked the nonviolent demonstrators in Islamabad during their demonstration, according to Imran Khan’s party.
“Under the harsh, fascist military regime headed by the establishment and PMLN’s illegal government, a massacre has taken place in Pakistan at the hands of security forces,” the PTI said in a post on X. Blood is soaking the country.
Armed security officers attacked nonviolent PTI demonstrators in Islamabad today, using live ammunition in an attempt to murder as many people as possible. Numerous bystanders were also killed with the deployment of snipers. The interior minister’s promise to murder and subsequent proclamation of “victory” over the massacre of innocent people, which resulted in many deaths and injuries, is sufficient proof of the regime’s inhumanity, the statement said.
“This atrocity and the deterioration of democracy and humanity in Pakistan must be condemned by the world,” the PTI said. The world community ought to strongly condemn this ruthless crackdown.
Four security guards and two PTI supporters were killed Tuesday as the PTI’s demonstrations calling for the release of its leader Imran Khan descended into violence, according to Dawn. When the PTI demonstrations arrived at D-Chowk in Islamabad, they were confronted with heavy tear gas, which sparked a fight between the demonstrators and security personnel.
