According to ARY News, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner said that the current fighting began on Thursday and that both sides are using heavy weapons against one another.

Following days of bloodshed, the conflicting tribes reportedly agreed on a seven-day truce and the release of captives in the Kurram District, according to Barrister Saif, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s advisor for information and public relations.

Speaking to ARY News, he said that after a two-day journey to Kurram, the official Jirga returned to Peshawar.
Three additional persons were murdered earlier Wednesday in the Kurram area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, bringing the total number of fatalities from the week-long intermittent violence to 76, according to Dawn.

The most recent deaths were caused by retaliatory assaults that followed a tragic ambush in the Lower Kurram district’s Mandori Charkhel region on Thursday that killed around 40 people in a convoy.

Two days after the ambush, 21 more people were murdered in gunfights and arson in Bagan village, which is located in Lower Kurram.

Fighting has continued intermittently even after officials mediated a truce on Sunday. Conflicts broke out again Tuesday in places including Ghozaghari, Matasanagar, and Kunj Alizai, according to officials, with three more people killed and six injured.

According to sources cited by Dawn, the criminals based in the villages of Chardeval and Jalmay in the Alizai region of Lower Kurram attacked three gunship aircraft. However, there have been no recorded casualties as of yet.

The local government is attempting to resolve the growing dispute. In order to assist in putting a stop to the violence, a grand jirga made up of elders from the districts of Hangu, Orakzai, and Kohat will be sent to the area, according to Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud. The commissioner for the Kohat division will serve as the jirga’s leader.
