An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck the United States

Washington: A 5.8-magnitude earthquake in Alaska, USA, was reported by the US Geological Survey.

The location of the earthquakes was 71 kilometers southeast of Nikolai.

Preliminary data indicates that the earthquake occurred at a fairly shallow depth of 0.1 miles. Because shallow earthquakes are closer to the surface, they are felt more powerfully than deeper ones.

No significant damage or injuries were reported.
