The location of the earthquakes was 71 kilometers southeast of Nikolai.
Preliminary data indicates that the earthquake occurred at a fairly shallow depth of 0.1 miles. Because shallow earthquakes are closer to the surface, they are felt more powerfully than deeper ones.
