After winning the election, Trump discussed the Ukraine war with Putin over the phone
Moscow: According to The Washington Post, US President-elect Donald Trump had his first phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin since Trump’s election victory.
According to sources cited by the US daily on Sunday (local time), Trump answered the phone from his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida and counseled the Russian president against intensifying the conflict in Ukraine.
This information has not been formally verified by the Kremlin or the White House.
According to the Washington Post, which cited a source familiar with the conversation, the president-elect reminded Putin of Washington’s substantial military posture in Europe during the discussion.
Trump pledged to end the Ukrainian crisis quickly during his presidential campaign, but he made no mention of his plans. The publication claims that Trump mentioned the subject of regions in passing during his phone conversation with Putin and that he would privately approve a compromise in which Russia retained part of the freed territory.
According to the US daily, the Ukrainian government was notified of the contact and did not oppose since Kyiv authorities knew that Trump would speak with Putin about the issue.
According to Russian official media, Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s press secretary, said on Friday that although the Russian president is amenable to a conversation with Trump, he was unable to provide any specific details at this time.
Putin also congratulated Trump on winning the presidential election at Thursday’s Valdai Discussion Club plenary session, saying he saw nothing improper in calling Trump.
Trump told NBC that while he had not yet had a conversation with the Russian leader, he thought it was quite possible that he would.
Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor to US President Joe Biden, said on Sunday that the White House wants “to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position on the battlefield so that it is ultimately in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table.”
Additionally, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday, according to Sullivan on CBS News.
“The first and most crucial message will be that President Biden is dedicated to a responsible handoff and peaceful transition of power, which is in line with our nation’s finest traditions and has been for the last 240 years. After that, they will discuss the most important matters, both in terms of international and domestic policy,” Sullivan told CBS News.
including events in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. The White House National Security adviser said, “The President will have the opportunity to explain to President Trump his perspective, where they stand, and how President Trump is considering taking on these issues when he takes office.”
