10th meeting of the India-EU Energy Panel held in Brussels
In Brussels, the 10th meeting of the India-EU Energy Panel reviewed the accomplishments of the 2nd Phase of the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership 2021-2024 and focused on the goals of both parties for the energy transition.
Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, and Ms. Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Director-General for Energy, European Commission, co-chaired the November 21 meeting.
The European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy and Directorate General for Climate Action represented the EU at the conference, while representatives from the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Power participated.
Joint efforts including technical collaboration in 51 activities across nine areas were initiated and completed by the two parties during the conference.
The framework for green hydrogen cooperation, which includes collaboration on green hydrogen policies between India and the EU, has also been outlined by the two parties.
India became an exclusive country partner of European Hydrogen Week 2024, and the EU and its member states attended the International Conference on Green Hydrogen 2024 in India.
As part of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council Working Group on sustainable and Green Technologies, which was formed in January 2023, India and the EU also made long-term research commitments to collaboratively promote sustainable energy initiatives.
In order to strengthen collaboration in five key areas—green hydrogen, offshore wind, regional connectivity, electricity market integration and smart grids, energy efficiency, and energy and climate diplomacy—the two parties agreed to adopt the Work Plan for the Third Phase of the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (2025–2028).
The two parties have outlined a comprehensive roadmap for green hydrogen collaboration that includes supply chain strengthening, regulatory and technological cooperation, and evaluating the viability of infrastructure development.
The EU and its member states’ involvement in the International Solar Alliance was also praised by the Panel. Furthermore, India and the EU committed to cooperate closely on sustainable energy inside the G20 framework and reaffirmed their collaboration with the International Energy Agency.
