Weather Today: IMD warns of heavy rains in these states including Gujarat, Bengal
Weather Today: Because of an active monsoon system across the Indian subcontinent, most states will continue to see heavy rainfall today. Mumbai was placed on orange warning by the India Meteorological Department on Saturday, August 24, due to the possibility of severe to very heavy rainfall in the city. In the meanwhile, Gujarat has been placed under a red alert because of today’s very high rainfall.
IMD weather update
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on Saturday in several areas of Gujarat, Vidarbha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, etc., according to the weather predicting organization.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls (> 20 cm) very likely at isolated places over Gujarat Region; Heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥ 12 cm) at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch; Heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Marathwada, Kerala & Mahe, Telangana, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka,” IMD said in its latest weather bulletin.
Today will bring squally weather to several coastal regions of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, along and off Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh, etc. The wind speed will reach 35 kmph to 45 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
Orange alert issued in Mumbai
It is probable that there will be heavy to very severe rainfall in a number of Mahrashtra districts today, including Raigad, Mumbai, and Ratnagiri district. According to PTI, the IMD has issued an orange warning for the Konkan districts of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri starting on August 24.
Additionally, it issued an orange warning for Saturday for the districts of Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gondia, and Pune in western Maharashtra and Satara in Vidarbha.
An orange alert in a location indicates that there might be significant to very heavy rainfall—more than 64.5 mm in a 24-hour period—that could impair daily activities and result in floods in low-lying regions.
Weather condition in delhi today
In its weather advisory, the Meteorological Department forecasted that today will be nice in Delhi. It is expected that the nation’s capital will see mostly overcast skies, mild to moderate rainfall, and thunderstorms. In Delhi, the IMD has issued a yellow notice for Saturday to warn residents of possible disruptions brought on by mild to moderate rainfall across the region.
