In accordance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and pertinent provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the charges have been properly filed. Serious charges of abetment to rape, which are covered by Section 109 of the IPC, are specifically being made against the accused.

A thorough chargesheet covering six distinct cases connected to these offenses has been filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Walayar case, in which two young girls were discovered dead in their home in 2017 after alleged sexual assault, was transferred from the Palakkad POCSO Court to the CBI court in Ernakulam by the High Court last year.

The CBI petitioned to transfer the trial from the Special Court for POCSO cases in Palakkad to the Ernakulam CBI Court, and the order was granted.

A 13-year-old girl was discovered hanged at her Attappallam home on January 7, 2017. Her nine-year-old sister was later discovered hanging in the same home on March 4, 2017. On March 6, 2017, a special investigative team headed by Palakkad ASP G. Poonguzhali IPS was established to look into the Sisters’ deaths.

Both sisters had been sexually assaulted, according to the March 12, 2017, post-mortem report. The police filed a chargesheet on June 22, 2019, stating that the deaths were suicides. On October 9, 2019, the case’s first ruling cleared Cherthala resident Pradeep Kumar of all charges owing to a lack of evidence. The court acquitted Shibu, M. Madhu, and V. Madhu, the other suspects, on October 25, 2019.
