General Officer Commanding in Central Command (GOC-in-C), Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, provided an update on the Mana avalanche event and said that all available help, including radars and UAVs, would be sent as soon as the weather and road conditions permit.

“At the moment, efforts are being made by air to remove the wounded. We’re hoping to finish the operation by this evening by working with all agencies,” the official said.

“The rescue operation started yesterday and up until yesterday, 33 workers were rescued,” Chamoli district magistrate Sandeep Tiwari told ANI. Today, 17 more people were saved. Fifty people have been rescued thus far, and efforts are being made to find the other missing individuals.

According to the Indian Army, an avalanche on Friday morning buried 55 employees of the Border Roads Organization under the snow. The laborers were buried inside eight containers and a shack when the avalanche struck the BRO camp.

Due to unfavorable weather circumstances, such as rain and snow, rescue efforts were suspended on Friday night. They were restarted this morning when the weather cleared.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that too much snow was impeding rescue attempts, and helicopters were sent in to assist with the rescue mission.

This morning, Dhami also carried out an aerial inspection of the region hit by the avalanche.

“Due to the ongoing snowfall, more than five blocks in the area are without internet or power. We’ll get the area’s connection back as quickly as we can. “For rescue operations, more than 200 personnel are deployed,” he said.

According to the Chief Minister, rescue efforts are in progress to evacuate the remaining individuals, with 50 of the 55 individuals having already been evacuated.

According to him, the rescued individuals are being taken to Jyotirmath for medical attention. They will also be sent to a higher center if necessary.

The Chief Minister visited the employees receiving care at the Army Hospital and asked how they were doing.

He told the District Magistrate that the Central Government is also offering all the support required for the search and rescue effort and that there should never be a lack of resources.

An avalanche happened yesterday close to Mana Pass, according to District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari, who was informing the Chief Minister.

Two of the 57 BRO workers who resided in the containers were on leave. 50 of the 55 employees have been rescued so far thanks to a quick search by ITBP and the Army. The state and central governments have sent four helicopters. To far, 25 workers have been transported to Jyotirmath with their assistance,” the DM said.

The District Magistrate gave ITBP and the Army high marks for their successful rescue effort. The 28-person NDRF team has also arrived at the location, he added. The remaining workers will be rescued shortly since they have extensive expertise in conducting rescue operations.
