Best wishes and congratulations on Lord Mahavir Swami Ji’s birth anniversary to the whole state. Lord Mahavir’s teachings on truth, non-violence, compassion, and self-control will always shine a light on our lives. We shall always be motivated to pursue the road of faith, sacrifice, and humanity by his teachings.” CM Dhami wrote on X.

The celebration of Mahavir Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, who was born into a royal family in 615 BC and was given the name “Vardhamana” during his early years. Mahavir Samvat has announced that April 10 will be the celebration day.

As Vardhamana matured, he gave up his royal position at the age of thirty and embarked on a spiritual quest for knowledge and truth. To attain “Kevala Jnana”, he spent twelve years in a jungle meditating and doing austerities. After that, he spread the Jainist Dharma.

Mahavira’s birth anniversary is joyfully and enthusiastically celebrated by the Jain community across the globe. The teachings of Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, promoted harmony and peace.

Rituals such as prayer at Jain temples, processions, singing hymns to Lord Mahavira, fasting to cleanse the body and soul, charitable giving, cultural events, and talks by religious leaders and academics are all part of the celebration of Mahavir Jayanti.

Mahavir Jayanti is observed to draw attention to the importance of Jainism globally, particularly in India. In the modern world, the fundamental lesson of “ahimsa parmo dharma”, or non-violence, is very important.
