Uttarakhand: A total of 6,496 nominations have been received for the municipal body general elections for the year 2024-25

Uttarakhand: Following the deadline for nomination submissions on Monday, the Uttarakhand State Election Commission said on Tuesday that 6,496 nominations have been received for the state’s Municipal Local Body General Elections for the 2024–25 year.

Nominations were accepted beginning December 27.
The State Election Commission reports that 2,325 nomination papers have been filed for the post of Councillor in municipal corporations, and 103 nominations have been made for the position of city head in municipal corporations.

Furthermore, 1,922 nomination papers have been filed for the post of Member in Municipal Palika Parishads, and 284 nominations have been received for the position of Chairman.

There have been 1,567 nominations for the member post and 295 nominations for the chairperson position for Nagar Panchayats.
A total of 5,814 nomination papers for Councillor or member posts and 682 nominations for city head or chairman positions for various organizations have been submitted.

On January 2, candidates have the option to withdraw their candidacy papers, according to the State Election Commission.

The dates for the 2024–25 Municipal Local Body General Elections were formally published by the State Election Commission earlier on December 23. Eleven municipal corporations, forty-three municipal councils, and forty-six Nagar panchayats around the state would be up for election.

Voting will take place on January 23, 2025, according to the Commission, and the results will be tallied on January 25, 2025.
