Uttar Pradesh Electricity Department and Police demolish illegal encroachment in Sambhal

Sambhal: Police and the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Department destroyed unlawful encroachments in Sambhal, according to Sub-divisional Officer Santosh Tripathi (SDO). “The electricity pole was inside their house,” he said, referring to the fact that few residents had even encroached that far.

“Some people steal electricity without a connection or the right meter. An outdated mechanical meter that was inside is being removed. During the bulldozer action, Tripathi informed ANI, “Action is being taken to remove the encroachment.”

The older meters had been phased out about 15 years ago, according to Sambhal’s SDO.

To the best of my knowledge, directives were issued fifteen years ago prohibiting the installation of mechanical meters. “We will also remove the few older meters that were previously undetected, such as the one that was observed,” he stated.

The SDO stated during their visit that two to three homes were observed stealing electricity; however, the precise number of homes will be determined following an inquiry.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi visited with Sambhal violence victims earlier on Monday at party leader Sonia Gandhi’s home.

“Today, Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi met the Sambhal victims, along with Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. In a post on X, the Congress stated that the Sambhal tragedy was the result of the BJP’s hatred politics and that it was catastrophic for a peaceful society.

“With love and fraternity, we must work together to overcome this violent and cruel mindset. We will fight for justice for all the victims, and we stand with them,” the message continued.

Four people were killed and numerous others were injured when the violence in Sambhal broke out on November 24 during an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) inspection of a mosque from the Mughal Empire.
