Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram lauds proactive initiative of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes

New Delhi: Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram praised the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes’ aggressive efforts, highlighting the crucial role it plays in using its constitutional authority to implement and oversee the Forest Rights Act.

According to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, he was speaking to the crowd during the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes’ 22nd Foundation Day festivities held here on Wednesday.

Jual Oram promised that the Commission and the Tribal Ministry will keep working to provide social justice, a better and more respectable living, and the comprehensive development of Scheduled Tribe communities.

He highlighted the Central Government for Scheduled Tribes’ major programs, including the National Overseas Scholarship, pre- and post-matric scholarships, and Eklavya Model Residential Schools.

He also spoke about a customized development strategy that identified 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) nationwide.

Antar Singh Arya, the chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, provided a detailed overview of the Commission’s operations during his speech at the Foundation Day event.

“The current Commission has been visiting Scheduled Tribe communities across the nation since taking office,” he said. A 100-day action plan to assess the development of different states, districts, and public sector initiatives has been effectively carried out by the commission.

According to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, he praised the Commission’s efforts and accomplishments and underlined that it is unwavering in its resolve to protect the rights and promote the development of Scheduled Tribes.

Commission members Nirupam Chakma, Asha Lakra, and Shri Jatothu Hussain all spoke at the occasion, sharing their perspectives and experiences.

Along with other dignitaries like chairpersons, members, and secretaries of various national commissions, representatives of Scheduled Tribe communities, and university students, the event also featured Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, the chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes, and Vaddepally Ramchander, a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

The visitors were greeted by Puneet Kumar Goel, the Commission’s secretary, who also gave a short introduction to the Commission’s work and a summary of its major initiatives and successful cases during the first session. Numerous seminars on the advancement, growth, skill-building, and entrepreneurship of the tribal community were held after the first session.

During these meetings, policymakers, Delhi University academics, and experts from the National Skill Development Corporation offered their perspectives. Amit Nirmal, the commission’s joint secretary, gave a vote of gratitude to end the event.
