Three alleged drug peddlers from Bihar arrested with 21.3 kg ganja at Agartala railway station
Agartala: According to an official statement, three suspected drug traffickers from Bihar were apprehended at Agartala Railway Station in possession of 21.3 kilograms of cannabis.
The announcement states that on the evening of January 19, the persons were taken into custody from platform 1 at Agartala Railway Station as part of a combined operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF). The arrests were made just before the Rani Kamalapati Express was scheduled to leave.
The arrested suspects are from the Samastipur area of Bihar and are named as Shambhu Paswan (38), Niranjan Kumar (20), and Shanti Devi (38). During the raid, authorities found 21.3 kg of dried cannabis hidden in three different bags, according to the announcement.
The suspects allegedly planned to take the contraband via train to another state, according to the announcement. When questioned, they acknowledged that they had at least four or five prior instances of smuggling cannabis in a manner comparable to that of other states. Additionally, they disclosed details regarding a wider criminal organization that operates close to Agartala Railway Station.
In other states, the estimated market value of the cannabis that was confiscated is about Rs 2.1 lakh. At the Agartala GRP Police Station, a case has been registered under the NDPS Act. As they demolish the wider trafficking network, authorities have stepped up their probe and anticipate more arrests.
On January 20, the three defendants will appear before the Honorable Court. As officials continue to clamp down on this illicit activity, further developments on the probe are anticipated.
Two people, a man and a woman, were taken into custody at the Agartala railway station on January 11 by the Agartala GR police station and the Agartala Railway Protection Force (RPF) on suspicion of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS).
The accused pair, Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Nazmul (20) and Shaheena Akhtar (30), were charged with operating long-distance trains to sell drugs over state lines.
Authorities confiscated Rs 8.3 lakh in cash from the suspects during the operation, which they believe to be the proceeds of narcotics activities.
