Thousands of devotees reached Haridwar to take a dip in the holy Ganga on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya
Haridwar: On the occasion of Somvati Amavasya, thousands of devotees gathered in Haridwar early on Monday morning to take a sacred plunge in the Ganga. In Hinduism, the day is considered to be very important and is celebrated with prayers to the peepal tree, washing, contributions, and Shraddha Tarpan for the ancestors.
Because they believed that these deeds would bring favors, prosperity, and divine grace, pilgrims from all across the nation congregated at the ghats to conduct these holy rituals.
A Delhi devotee named Rajesh told the media report, “This is a celebration of religion. Because Somvati Amavasya did not occur during the Dwapar Yuga, according to scripture, Yudhishthir cursed Mother Ganga to manifest more often in Kalyug, where she bestowed her gifts upon mankind.
“There is a mystical sensation that comes from taking a bath that words cannot describe. It’s a positive vibe. In a winter this frigid, there is nowhere to go. We most likely have beliefs in ourselves, according to our religions and the opinions of others,” Rajesh told the media report.
Madhusudan, another devotee, shared his experience, stating, “I had a profound feeling of tranquility as I took part in the Ganga Aarti for the first time. The spiritual environment makes everything worthwhile, even in spite of the cold. I prayed for the nation’s security and well-being. I also participated in the Ganga aarti, he continued.
“People have traveled long distances to bathe on Somvati Amavasya,” said Ankit Saini, underscoring the crowd’s profound conviction. Everyone is hoping for happiness and harmony in the country. The preparations have been great, he added, with local assistance and police backup.
“Today feels special to be bathing in the Ganga,” remarked Manju Nagpal, who came with her family. I have a strong feeling of dedication to and respect for Maa Ganga, as does my family. For all of us, this has been a rewarding experience.
