Although the BJP scored its best-ever 29 seats, it fell short of the Jammu region’s projected objective of 35. In hopes of assembling a government, the party had intended to gather 15 seats from Kashmir including some independents and like-minded parties. But with only one seat out of a total of ten from the Muslim majority Ramban, Rajouri, and Poonch districts, its scheme did not go off.

To reach the 35 seats out of a total of 43 in the Jammu area, the party had been mostly depending on Gujjar, Bakarwal, and Pahari supporters.

Reacting to the results, former deputy chief minister (CM) Kavinder Gupta remarked, “We thank you; the people of Jammu backed us. Though we had planned for 35 seats, we fell short a few. Though these are all computations, we still emerged as a major party and BJP will keep fighting for stability, peace, and prosperity in Jammu & Kashmir.

“The BJP won 29 seats in Jammu, an all time high and we had over 25% vote, which is also highest,” said Ram Madhav, election in-charge for Kashmir. Still, the NC-Congress coalition obtained the statistics. The Congress piggybacked for the NC, but it was fiercely rejected in Jammu. Their one seat in Jammu was We shall assume the posture of a successful opposition. Sure, we will examine the findings.

Saying, “The BJP delivered its best performance in J&K with 29 seats, which is the highest record,” Ravinder Raina, the local unit president of BJP lost from home turf of Nowshera to NC’s Surinder Choudhary, too saw the bright side. We especially thank the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly of Jammu.

“While BJP swept Jammu region and workers also hoped that the party would win the Nowshera seat but it did not happen and we feel sad but the BJP polled over 27,000 votes,” he said.

Dealing with the poor performance of the party in Kashmir, he said, “We tried to do well in Gurez, Karnah, Bandipora, Shopian Habbakadal and Anantnag West.” Although the party obtained decent votes, it was unable to translate them into victories.

He further attributed the opposition parties obtaining the mandate on the failing Independents and other like-minded parties. But he said that 29 BJP MLAs will aggressively bring up public concerns in the House.
The BJP administration has revoked Article 370 and eliminated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, therefore turning it into a union territory.

The abrogation was declared by Farooq Abdullah’s National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP as “attack on Kashmiri identity.” These groups have characterised the action as anti-Kashmir. Especially, a sizable populace in Jammu opposed the elimination of Article 370.

In the BJP’s “Naya Kashmir,” security was given greater weight and ongoing operations against separatists, terrorism, and stone pelching started. The supporters of the separatist attitude, however, saw the actions as an assault on their freedom of speech.
