The district administration in Odisha’s Bhadrak has begun evacuation operations ahead of the arrival of Cyclone Dana
Cyclone Dana: Ahead of cyclone Dana’s arrival, the district government of Bhadrak, Odisha, evacuated residents to cyclone shelters on Thursday. It is anticipated that the cyclone will reach land tomorrow, October 25.
Dilip Routrai, the collector for Bhadrak, told a media report, “We are evacuating the residents from locations that are susceptible. While some individuals are being taken by the police because they don’t want to leave their houses, others are coming on their own.”
Three NDRF teams have been deployed; two are in the field and one is based at headquarters. Four fire department teams and two ODRF teams are working,” he said.
Sandeep Kumar Behera, the assistant fisheries officer for Bhadrak, said that fishing has been banned till October 26 owing to the approaching cyclone Dana.
“There are 10 FLC and 911 registered boats within Bhadrak’s authority, and every boat is berthed at the landing center. A media report was informed by the Bhadrak assistant fisheries officer that fishing is forbidden till October 26.
In anticipation of Cyclone Dana’s arrival, Dhamra Port Chief Executive Officer Devendra Thakkar said on Wednesday that all port activities have been halted and all employees have been evacuated.
“According to the IMD’s prediction, Cyclone Dana will make landfall from above Dhamra port… Dhamra port has made a good SOP to face cyclone,” Dhamra Port CEO Thakkar told a media report on Wednesday. The entire port staff has been evacuated, and all operations have been halted in preparation for the cyclone that is expected to impact the port on October 25.
According to Sudhanshu Sarangi, director general of Odisha Fire Services, the department has 182 units, or approximately 2000 personnel, and is prepared to handle the storm.
“We are completely prepared for the cyclone,” Director General Sarangi told a media report on Wednesday. About 2000 individuals, or 182 units, make up the Odisha Fire & Rescue Services. We have 20 NDRF teams, 400 State Disaster Force members, and a few teams from the Forest Department. We will cover all 14 districts that will be impacted.”
Because of the impending Cyclone Dana, aircraft operations would be halted for 17 hours from October 24 to 25, according to Bhubaneswar Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan, who spoke to a media report.
“We have unanimously decided to suspend (flight) operations for 17 hours, from 24th October to 25th October at 9 am,” Bhubaneswar Airport Director Pradhan told a media report on Wednesday. “Cyclone Dana is approaching the coast of Odisha and West Bengal according to the MET forecast, and as a result, Bhubaneshwar will also be affected due to strong wind and heavy rainfall.” There will be around 45 flights that are delayed, canceled, or disrupted.
The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team has been sent, and the state administration is assessing all circumstances in light of Cyclone Dana’s impending arrival, according to Odisha Minister Suryavanshi Suraj.
“Arrangements for electricity, food, and medical care are being made in all the central points affected by the cyclone,” Odisha Minister Suraj told a media report on Wednesday. Approximately 3,000–4,000 persons have been relocated to secure locations. We shall keep an eye on this region all night long since the Dhamra area is probably going to be more affected by the storm. The ODRAF crew has been sent out.
Additionally, plans for NDRF and road obstruction have been established. There have also been discussions with the port authority. To ensure the security of its workers, the port administration will likewise halt operations for two days. We are evaluating every circumstance,” he said.
