Tamil Nadu Congress: Will protest by showing black flags in Rameswaram against PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu

Chennai: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu Congress President Selvaperundagai said Tuesday that the party will hold a black flag demonstration in Rameshwaram, raising concerns about state rights, federalism, and other policy matters.

Selvaperundagai accused the prime minister of weakening state rights and ignoring federal norms.

He is traveling to Tamil Nadu, but why? When he doesn’t care about stealing state rights and federalism. To oppose PM Modi’s arrival, Tamil Nadu will stage a black flag demonstration. PM Modi is in charge of the union ministers, refuses to provide Tamil Nadu with union education money, and threatens to implement a triple language. We’re going to democratically stage a black flag demonstration,” he said.

Selvaperundagai further noted that the MGNREGA scheme’s beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu had not received their pay from the Union government.

In response to criticism of the triple language policy under the New Education Policy (NEP), Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi vehemently defended the state’s language policy, citing the memory of the late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.

“All members have been insisting on an important issue,” Anbil Mahesh stated while speaking before the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The Tamil Thai Valthu (Tamil anthem), the Thirukural on government buses, the Valluvar Kootam he built, a distinct department for Tamil language development, government orders in Tamil, and the designation of Tamil as a classical language were all established by our leader Karunanidhi, according to the DMK.

He emphasized Karunanidhi’s efforts by posing the question, “There are 1,599 languages in India, with 122 major languages. Look for anybody else who, like our hero Karunanidhi, campaigned to preserve their home language across India. The minister’s comments followed concerns expressed by Opposition Deputy Leader RB Udayakumar on a letter sent to the Union Government by the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, which hinted at ambiguity and the possibility that the state had agreed to the NEP’s triple language policy.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s three-language formula and the delimitation process have caused the MK Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government to clash with the central government.
