Setting a new record for the most 200-plus totals by any side in a calendar year, the win was noteworthy since it was India’s ninth 200-plus total in T20 matches in 2024.

India, who were sent in to bat first, amassed a dominant 219/6 thanks to a remarkable century from Tilak Varma. Varma demonstrated his aggressive batting ability with an undefeated 107 runs off 56 deliveries, which included eight fours and seven sixes. Abhishek Sharma, who struck three fours and five sixes in his rapid 50 runs off 25 balls, gave Varma a lot of assistance.

This innings beat India’s previous record of seven 200-plus totals in a year, set in 2023. Japan (2024) and the Birmingham Bears (2022) were the only teams to accomplish the feat seven times in a single calendar year.

India achieved their sixth individual century in T20 Internationals in 2024 with Tilak Varma’s century. This accomplishment tied the record for the most hundreds a squad earned in a T20 season. India (2023) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2016) previously shared the record.

In addition to Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Rohit Sharma, and Sanju Samson (who scored two hundreds) have all struck hundreds for India in Twenty24 T20Is.

With strong hitting from Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen, South Africa rallied back bravely and continued the chase.

Jansen hammered a 17-ball 54, blasting five sixes and four boundaries, while Klaasen scored a rapid 41 runs off 22 balls, including four sixes. Being the quickest fifty against India in T20 Internationals, Jansen’s innings was notable.

South Africa missed the goal by 11 runs in spite of their best efforts.

With three wickets for 37 runs, Arshdeep Singh was the best bowler from India. He dismissed the dangerous Jansen in the last over and was important in both the powerplay and death overs.
