Supported Assam government’s decision to ban eating beef in restaurants and public places

New Delhi: Dilip Saikia, a BJP MP from Darrang-Udalguri, Assam, supported the Assam government’s decision to outlaw the eating of beef in public and restaurants on Wednesday, stating that the move was taken in support of India’s “Sanatana” tradition and had no sectarian undertones.

“The government of Assam has agreed to outlaw beef in public areas. I agree with this choice. In Sanatana culture, cows are regarded as mothers. The Sanatana culture forbids the consumption of beef. We have nothing against people eating beef in private, but because most people think it’s inedible, we don’t mind if it’s served in public.” This decision was made in support of India’s Sanatana culture and has no communal component,” Dilip Saikia told ANI.

According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the administration has made the decision to outlaw the serving and eating of beef in all public areas, hotels, and restaurants in the state.

According to the chief minister, the 2021 Assam Cattle Preservation Act has been effective in guaranteeing the killing of cattle, and “now we have decided to stop the consumption of beef in public places.”
“We had passed the law on prohibition of cattle slaughter three years ago, and it was quite successful, so now, in Assam, we have decided that beef will not be served in any restaurant or hotel and also it will not be served in any public function or public place, so from today we have completely decided to stop the consumption of beef in hotels, restaurants and public places,” the chief minister of Assam stated.

The CM said that the government has now extended the ban on beef eating across the whole state, while the previous decision only applied to areas close to temples.

“Earlier our decision was to stop eating beef near temples, but now we have expanded it to the entire state, so you will not be able to eat it in any community place, public place, hotel or restaurant,” Sarma said.

Additionally, the chief minister of Assam said that on December 7, the state would expand its cabinet.
